Reaching Your Target Audience is Essential

As storytellers, PR pros have a wide variety of tools to help us get our messaging to the intended audiences.  Those tools range from news releases, photo captions and fact sheets  to media advisories and story pitches – with words being the predominantly common theme.  We can paint pictures with our writing.

Visual storytelling has also become a valuable tool for communicators, as videos and pictures are sometimes worth a thousand words.

But what if your only tool is a paint brush and a blank canvas?

Then you have to understand who your target audience is and how best to reach them.   San Diego artist Paul Strahm does just that.  He’s been a full-time artist since 1997 and regularly sets up shop along the boardwalk in San Diego.  He takes his “messaging” directly to his audience where passers-by often purchase his artwork of their current or nearby beachfront surroundings.

Strahm told me he’s also got a solid online presence to meet the needs of some of his customers, as well as a couple of galleries in Southern California that also showcase his “messaging.”

In today’s environment, whether you’re a plein air painter or professional communicator, underestimating the “how” about reaching your target audience can be the difference between success and complete failure.
