Do You Offer a Seat at the Table?
When we meet with a prospective new client, as much as we are putting our best foot forward in sharing our capabilities, we are also gauging if they are a good fit with us.
As Abbie detailed here, there is a laundry list of things that make a good client.
But No. 1 on my wish list: do you want your public relations team to have a seat at the table?
This means that you actively want us as your public relations team to be a part of discussions and decisions that those in leadership are having and making as it relates to the organization, its strategic direction, and both the good and bad forces that have an impact on it. Beyond that, to have a true seat at that table means the ability to opening and honestly share, even when what we say might be hard to hear, like “no.”
