A Reflection on 33 Years

Today marks my 33rd anniversary with HMA Public Relations. It is a milestone that feels both significant and humbling. It is also a reminder that some of the most meaningful chapters of our lives are not defined by a single moment, but by the thousands of days spent learning, growing, and showing up for the people and work that matter most.

This anniversary also marks two and a half years since I purchased the company, becoming the first woman owner in HMA’s history. While that achievement is one I am deeply proud of, what I appreciate most is not the title or the milestone itself. It is the opportunity to help shape the future of a company that has shaped so much of my own professional journey.

Leadership has given me a deeper appreciation for the responsibility that comes with earning trust and creating opportunities for others to succeed.

A lot has changed since I walked through the doors of then Hanson, Moser & Associates that July morning in 1993. The communications landscape continues to evolve at a remarkable pace. The tools we use, the channels we navigate, and the ways we connect with audiences look very different than they did back then (heck, they look different than they did last year!). Our team has evolved and adapted, our client roster has changed, and the challenges we help organizations solve have become increasingly complex.

Yet so much remains the same. Relationships still matter. Listening still matters. Strategic thinking, creativity, integrity, and a commitment to delivering results remain at the heart of what we do every day. The foundation of this agency has always been built on people, and that has never changed.

As I reflect on these past 33 years, gratitude is what rises to the surface. I am grateful for the colleagues who challenge me, support me, and inspire me. I am grateful for the clients who place their confidence in us and allow us to be part of their stories and successes. I am grateful for mentors who shared their wisdom and for friends and family who have celebrated the wins and helped me navigate the challenges along the way.

Thirty-three years ago, I could not have imagined the path ahead. What I know today is that I still love this work, I still believe in the power of communication to make a difference, and I remain energized by what comes next. For every person who has been part of this journey, thank you. Your trust, partnership, and support have made it all possible, and I am excited for the chapters still to be written.
