Earlier this week, I came across a blog post, Stop Making These Five Social Media Mistakes by Emily Joseph on Spin Sucks as posted on PR Daily. I love when I come across articles from Gini Dietrich's team, because as I mentioned in a former blog post, Fake News, Gini is one of my favorite public relations people and Abbie and I use her book, Spin Sucks, in the class we co-teach at Arizona State University!
This blog post had some great advice that I have outlined here:
Don’t post too much
Don’t post too little
Make sure to engage with the audience if they engage with you
Don’t use canned responses
Use proper grammar
I think the biggest takeaway is the engagement tip. One of the things we always discuss with our clients is the importance of having a digital communications strategy to increase engagement. A key part of that is making sure to listen and to also respond in an appropriate and timely manner.
What do you think about these five tips? Anything else that you think should be added?
