How To Avoid a PR Pro’s Naughty List
Last week, I shared some tips to help avoid the media’s naughty list as we approach the holidays.
This week let’s turn the tables and talk about avoiding a PR Pro’s naughty list!
- Do not call what we do spin. #SpinSucks
- Do not lump us all into one group.
- Do not confuse PR with advertising.
- Do not assume good PR happens overnight; it takes a village, research, and an investment of time!
- Do not assume PR is just about media coverage. Think bigger – from events and internal communications to content development and digital communications, firms like HMA can help you do it all.
- Do not assume a PR partnership is just for big businesses. PR done properly and to scale is effective for every size organization, association, government, business, and nonprofit.
- Do not tell us all publicity is good publicity. Crisis communications and issues management – two hallmarks of HMA’s suite of services since its inception in 1980 – would not exist if this were true.
- All PR people are extroverts. Not by a longshot.
