#TipForTuesday – What is Leadership?
The leadership words for this month’s #TipForTuesday, selected from the Developing the Leader Within You deck of cards, are:
- Wisdom – having deep understanding, insight and knowledge, the ability to make good judgments
- Volunteerism/Service – serving the community, nonprofit organizations
- Courage – the willingness to take calculated risks and step outside of one’s comfort zone
The Wizard Had It Right
We were talking about the Wizard of Oz at dinner last week. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time. And this month’s leadership words are straight from the Wizard’s mouth – wisdom, volunteer service (heart) and courage. As you remember, each of Dorothy’s friends tries to help her get back to Kansas. They could help if they “only had a brain, “a heart,” or “the nerve.” And the Wizard reminds them that they do, in fact, possess these qualities.
Leaders Need a Bit of All Three
A good leader has the wisdom to make good decisions, the courage to take risks and the compassion and commitment to do good in our communities.
