#TipForTuesday – What is Leadership?
Pulling the leadership cards from the Developing the Leader Within You deck this month got me thinking about the role of leadership today. We just came out of the mid-term elections, where tensions were high, voter fatigue had set in and the candidates’ messages were riddled with what makes a good leader.
This month’s selections are:
- Loyalty – faithful to a person, an ideal, a custom, a cause or a duty
- Status – holding a position of importance, high standing, prestige
- Fun – playfulness, ability to laugh and express humor, joking
- Passion – intense emotional excitement, boundless enthusiasm
And as a reminder, these cards are selected purely at random.
There can be no doubt that those running for office are passionate about the important issues facing society today. Loyalty is something they all profess – loyalty to the ideals of the party they represent, to the people they will represent and certainly the causes. And once elected, the person will hold a position of high standing.
Now onto the subject of fun. I’d be hard-pressed to say as a part of the electorate if we witnessed anything remotely close to fun during the election cycle. Perhaps if the candidates showed us their ability to have fun they’d appear more personable.
With passion and loyalty, coupled with a healthy dose of fun, I believe, you will gain status and ultimately be a good leader.
