Meet the Newsroom with the Phoenix Business Journal
Yesterday, Bre and I attended the Phoenix Business Journal’s Meet the Newsroom event held at the Phoenix Art Museum. The event was a huge success with more than 200 in attendance and started out with a great welcome, history and overview from Ilana Lowery, editor-in-chief, and Patrick O’Grady, managing editor. They explained how the paper works both digitally (twice daily) and in print (once a week) and the differences in both.
Then each attendee was able to move between tables to talk with staff from the Phoenix Business Journal (and what they cover) including:
Angela Gonzales – covers heath care, biotech and education (also celebrating her 30th year at the Phoenix Business Journal this September)
Dale Brown – research director
Hayley Ringle – covers human resources, technology, solar and entrepreneur beats
Jim Poulin – photo editor
Mike Sunnucks – coves real estate, law and government
Steven Totten – covers retail, small business, restaurant, tourism, hospitality and nonprofit beats
Tim Gallen – covers daily breaking news
This was a great opportunity to talk with each individual and find out what types of stories they are currently working on, find out how they like to be pitched and also put a face with a name! In addition, last year, Alison did an amazing recap (with some fun facts) from a PRSA Phoenix media breakfast that is all about the Phoenix Business Journal.
These types of events are great for public relations professionals to build relationships with the media.
