#MediaMonday – Scott Laird
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from talented writer Scott Laird.
How did you get your start in the media? What is your story?
I was working the overnight shift at an airline and wanted some way to fill the early mornings after I got off work. I answered an ad for examiner.com and started writing about local restaurants. I have a background in travel as a travel agent, and have worked in hotels and for airlines, so writing about travel came naturally to me—it only grew from there.
Tell us about the outlets for which you write and the topics you prefer to be pitched?
I contribute stories for Condé Nast Traveler, Fodors Travel Guide, AFAR, TravelPulse, TravelAge West, and OTL Magazine. Pitch me any and all travel topics, particularly with quirky or offbeat angles, unknown histories, and stories about how travelers can best feel a sense of place during their sojourns.
Where did you grow up?
Between Anchorage, Alaska and Koloa, Kaua’i.
Favorite color?
Green
Favorite TV shows or movies?
I love vintage travel TV – Hawaii Five-O, The Love Boat, Magnum PI, The Golden Girls, The Bob Newhart Show, modern classics like The West Wing, Absolutely Fabulous, or cult sitcoms like Wings. I’m currently loving Loot, Bridgerton, Emily in Paris, Call My Agent, and Ted Lasso. When it comes to movies I love musicals, period films, and cerebral dramas: South Pacific, The Post, Out of Africa, Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Airplane!, Far From The Madding Crowd, Casablanca
