#MediaMonday – Ray Schey
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Ray Schey, market president and publisher of the Phoenix Business Journal.
Tell us about your journey to the Phoenix Business Journal?
I worked in the media industry for many years in both radio and television with companies like Clear Channel Television/Radio (now IHeart Media) and Entercom (now Audacy) Communications before moving into business publishing in 2008.
I was working at the Rochester Business Journal in New York State as the advertising director for nearly 5 years. I was recruited by American City Business Journals to become the advertising director of the Milwaukee Business Journal in April 2013. Within one year in Milwaukee, I was promoted to my current role and began here in May 2014.
Tell us what the Phoenix Business Journal has on tap in 2024?
We just moved into new offices at the Biltmore Center located at 24th Street and Camelback Road. We’ll continue to provide the best business news coverage of anyone in the Valley. Our content leads first and through a business lens. In addition to providing great content, we identify marketing opportunities for prospects and advertisers based on their goals and marketing objectives. Our quality awards events recognize companies and individuals for their achievements We create and host many events that offer interesting and informative content for the business community.
We’re always exploring new projects and opportunities. We have a Business of Sports event and a DEI event planned for 2024.
What kinds of stories does the Phoenix Business Journal seek?
We look to publish stories that help business professionals stay informed and in-the-know. The best stories come to us from sources who want it published first in the business journal. We love receiving tips on stories bubbling up before any other media. Then, we publish those as exclusive or breaking news stories. Our credibility in journalism is paramount to our continued success. Economic development activity is of big interest to our readers.

Favorite color?
Blue, I guess. LOL.
Favorite TV shows or movies?
I’m easily amused and look for simple entertainment. Wedding Crashers, Dumb and Dumber.
I also watched Legally Blonde with my daughter whenever it was on TV.
Favorite local restaurants, golf courses or other haunts?
Michelina’s Italian Restaurant, Steak 44.
Love playing golf at Quintero (a Troon course in Peoria).
Cave Creek and the rodeo at Buffalo Chip Saloon are a ‘must see’ and a great place to entertain out of town visitors.
