#MediaMonday – MacKenzie Brower
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from MacKenzie Brower. While we have profiled her before here, that was when she worked as a reporter for Independent Newsmedia. Today, she serves as news editor for the Paradise Valley Independent, so we thought it the perfect time to put her on the hot seat again.
Tell us about your current role with Independent Newsmedia?
As the news editor of the Paradise Valley Independent, I cover the local community in depth. I take photos and write stories for all our sections and topics – both online and in print – including town council, planning commission, other committees and boards, police department crime and safety, development and roadways, businesses, resorts and tourism, real estate, schools, churches, neighbor features, events and entertainment.
I also publish press releases and submitted content and am organizing a forum at Town Hall for candidates running in the next election.
What kind of pitches do you want?
I am always in need of more opinion letters and neighborly stories to get more people and faces in our coverage. We want to feature your life moments and accomplishments – big or small.
In your spare time, you are a regional referee for United States Youth Soccer. Did you play yourself?
I have played since I was five, but not so much in the last few years as I have focused on advancing my career to become a professional MLS referee.
Favorite songs?
It changes often. Right now, I like to listen to songs by Hozier from “Unreal Unearth” and The 1975 “At Their Very Best” both of which I saw in concert last year.
Any recent favorite shows?
I recently finished watching Blacklist and really enjoyed James Spader’s character.
Any fun plans this summer?
My family is doing a staycation at a Scottsdale resort for one week and I’m going to Hawaii to referee the Far West Regional Championships.
