#MediaMonday – Joe McHugh
Time flies when you are one of the busiest editors in Arizona!
When we last profiled Joe McHugh HERE, he was a staff writer for Times Media Group, primarily focused on writing about the West Valley.
But in three short years, he has made career milestone after milestone, today in a much bigger role.
To read about all of his great answers PRIOR, be sure to click the above link. And to hear about what he has going on now, read on!
Okay, Joe, time to share…
Tell us about your role for Times Media Group today?
As editorial supervisor at Times Media Group, I manage over a dozen publications throughout Arizona and even beyond. I get to work closely with some of the most interesting people in Arizona, and even Texas, to get all types of news, from local council meetings to big events happening, out to the communities I serve. Just some of the outlets in Arizona include: Scottsdale Airpark News, The Entertainer, Foothills Focus, Glendale Star, Peoria Times, West Valley View, Inside Tucson Business, Tucson Weekly, Marana News, and many more!
What are three things readers would be surprised to know about you?
The first is that I am actually a card magician! I fell in love with it when I was young, as I wanted to learn something cool for a family reunion we were having, so I spent a night watching a YouTube video on a trick and practiced it until I performed it for my dad and he said it was good. From there, I’ve dedicated over a decade of work to “the dark arts,” performed a live show in Venice, Italy, and now I am (sarcastically) somewhat passable as a magician (even though I can’t “magically” get my stage fright to go away).
Secondly, I am a self-proclaimed master pizza chef. I was scrolling through social media, when I saw some guy making what I thought looked like really good pizza from his home oven, and thought that I could do it, too. Hundreds of homemade pizza doughs, sauces and custom pizzas later, I make a mean pie and will always serve it if it’s someone’s first time at my house.
Lastly, I am surprisingly good at impersonations. This one doesn’t have that much of an elaborate backstory, but I have somehow compiled a rolodex of voices that sound pretty close to the person, or thing, I’m impersonating. From Stitch to Joe from Family Guy, I can usually get a good laugh or two out of the impersonation.
