How long have you been in journalism and how did you get started?
I’ve been a journalist for just over four years now. I began in college with an internship at a newspaper local to my school covering local government as well as random features I came across in the area.
Can you tell us what types of stories, trends or issues are on your radar now?
I cover everything EVs and the occasional alternative energy story, so most of what I pay attention to is in that sphere. Right now, I’m focusing on the rollout of EV infrastructure and the health of EV start-ups. After speaking to a few industry experts, it seems like NEVI is, in some ways, causing harm along with its help. I’ve been putting together a story on it for a bit now.
Any pet peeves with PR people?
Repeated emails! I got the same email from a PR person for a week straight. It makes me really annoyed and less likely to even respond. I prefer an initial email and then a follow up (if necessary) 5-7 days later.
What advice do you have for PR people that want to pitch you or your publication?
I understand that it’s just a list they’re likely going down, but I get a lot of pitches about things that have nothing to do with anything I’ve ever reported on. So, it’s nice to just get something relevant to my beat, there’s an almost 100% chance I’ll take it.
