#MediaMonday – Darren Tackett
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Darren Tackett, the co-owner of the newly launched Scottsdale.com.
How did you get your start in the media? What is your story?
As a REALTOR® by trade here in Scottsdale at EXP Realty, my time in the media throughout my career was having my listings featured in the news (both locally and nationally) and giving my feedback on industry trends. This is my first foray into being on the other side of the interview, looking to help share other people’s stories.
I’m originally from Glendale so I am a Valley native and proud of that. The only time I haven’t lived here was my four years at the University of Arizona where I graduated from their pre-med program as I thought I wanted to be a physical therapist. I came back and worked for a local physical therapy company for a year and that made me realize physical therapy wasn’t for me. I then sold cars for six months and noticed that everyone who bought the most expensive cars seemed to be in real estate or finance so that is when i decided to go get my license. i knew i was super motivated to be successful and wanted a business where the harder I worked the better I would do.
My entire career in real estate, which has revolved around the Scottsdale area, made me realize the tremendous opportunity with the availability of Scottsdale.com.
Tell us about your outlet and types of story pitches you want?
My business partner, Joe Shurtz, and I purchased Scottsdale.com because we saw a need in the marketplace for a strong digital platform that organized all events, real estate, restaurants, jobs, golf and local business promotion – all in a single digital destination and platform. What better .com to feature all of this than Scottsdale.com?!
It’s going to serve as the “go-to” site for both local and visitors alike. We want to share anything and everything going on in Scottsdale and ensure every local business is highlighted or featured in some way. And so far, the interest and support from the local business community has been exceptional. Our content is taking off and we have more exciting developments in the works to roll out in 2023.
As for pitches, we will take anything related to Scottsdale. Whether your client is based in Scottsdale, lives in Scottsdale or does business in Scottsdale – and no matter the industry – we want to hear about it.

Three things readers would be surprised to know about you?
- I have 19 and 22 year-old boys, a 12 year-old step daughter, as well as a 2 year-old girl so I have quite the age range of kids.
- I am actually very shy so being in real estate wasn’t easy for me in the beginning.
- I have a rescue dog named Alvin who I adore and that led me to start my Foster Friday posts on social media in partnership with Foothills Animal Rescue.
