#MediaMonday – Dan Bickley
It is not often that my husband, Brian, is jealous.
But today’s #MediaMonday Man is going to make him downright green with envy.
Don’t worry – it is not what you are thinking. Get your minds out of the gutter, blogosphere!
Over the past few months, I’ve had the chance to work with the one-and-only Dan Bickley, who just so happens to have or has had the top four jobs Brian has ever wanted:
- Prior to coming to Arizona, he was a sports columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times during Michael Jordan’s reign of supremacy
- He is a long-time Arizona Republic Sports Columnist, covering Brian’s precious Phoenix Suns and Arizona Cardinals, respectively, and the other Arizona Sports teams (not so precious to us).
- He is a sports-book author – most notably of Dennis Rodman’s Unauthorized Biography, No Bull, and the story of the Jerry Colangelo and his Redeem Team
- He is a ROCK STAR!
With that, Dan – tell us about mixing guitar solos into your already busy sports-filled day:
Alison is right about some of the above.
I am, indeed, a sports columnist for the Republic and AZCentral sports, where I cover the Suns, Cardinals, Diamondbacks, Coyotes, ASU and UofA. I am opinionated, usually over-caffeinated and passionate about all things that interest me – which led to writing books with both Dennis Rodman and Jerry Colangelo, two of the most interesting people on the planet.
She’s also right that I came from Brian’s “other” favorite sports town, Chicago, where I worked in sports for the Chicago Sun-Times for more than a decade and covered Michael Jordan on an almost-daily basis.
The only area where Alison takes poetic license is the “Rock Star” status. But, I do play rhythm guitar in an Arizona cover band, Whiskey’s Quicker. We’ve been together since 2011, and our current playlist includes everything from Aerosmith to ACDC to the Doobie Brothers. In recent months, we’ve opened for Eddie Money at Talking Stick Fields, performed at the NASCAR Speed Cantina at Phoenix International Raceway and even kicked off the Dbacks season with an opening day concert at Chase Field.
On top of all that, I did make some other news in recent weeks by joining Arizona Sports 620 and launching The Dan Bickley Show with Vince Marotta, on 620AM weekdays from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., after spending two decades alongside Mike Jurecki on our Bickley & MJ Show. I share my thoughts on MJ and my new role here and welcome everyone to my new home at 620.
Oh, I tweet too – feel free to give me a follow and drop me a line anytime!
