#MediaMonday – Christina Silvestri

Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Christina Silvestri, editor-in-chief of AZ Foothills.

How did you get your start in the media? What is your story?

I discovered a passion for writing early on, which led me to receive my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication. During college, I started interning at Arizona Foothills Magazine, where I learned the ropes of story pitching, writing and fact-checking, and have maintained the relationship ever since. I was immensely honored to take on the role of EIC in January 2022. My younger self would be in disbelief!

Tell us about your outlet and types of story pitches you want?

azf is Arizona’s longest-running luxury lifestyle media brand. We are celebrating our 25th anniversary in print this year along with new ownership that is bringing fresh concepts and ideas, including special-edition issues, contests and events. Our ever-developing digital offering continues to reach an expanded audience with an omnichannel presence, attracting 500K+ social media followers and 70K+ opt-in email subscribers. Thanks to the power of insights analytics, I am constantly impressed by the impact and reach of our content locally, regionally in the Southwest and even internationally!

We are always open to receiving new story pitches for both local interest and evergreen content covering the full breadth of the lifestyle category: from fashion, beauty, travel and home/real estate to food and drink and health and wellness.

Where did you grow up?

I am a Phoenix native and grew up in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. Like many, I’ve witnessed our city change and grow over the years to be one of the most popular and sought-after places to live and visit in the country. Thanks to the amazing weather and the talents of our community, we have so much to offer and enjoy!

Favorite color?

It’s a tie–I can’t pass up a deep olive green or a rich red burgundy!

Favorite TV shows or movies?

Ozark, Stranger Things and The Godfather!

Favorite local restaurants or other haunts?

I am always partial to anything Chris Bianco cooks up, as well as Mexican food at Barrio Queen, Gallo Blanco or Taco Boys are some of my go-tos, among many other favorites! Enjoying a dirty martini at Hanny’s bar downtown is always a delight.

Three things readers would be surprised to know about you?

  1. I play violin and piano
  2. I am vegetarian
  3. As an unabashed cat lady, I am passionate about animal welfare
