#MediaMonday – Christina Estes
Ever wonder who helps put the “FYI” into KFYI Radio each day?
One of our favorite FYIers is none other than Christina Estes, KFYI morning reporter and midday anchor. We are pleased that this #MediaMonday she is joining us here on HMATime to give us a little insight into what she does and how she got into the business.
(If new to #MediaMonday – it’s a weekly profile of some of our favorite media peeps. A full list of past profiles is available here.)
So, Christina, time to share!
What do you want to tell the blogosphere about yourself today?
Having grown up in the Midwest, my arrival to Phoenix was like stepping into another world. Cacti, mountains and, oh yes, the heat. Sadly, I moved during the summer. Happily, it was to report for ABC15, where I covered some amazing stories and made lifelong friends.
In 2007, Bob Sullivan, my former news director at ABC15 invited me to join him at the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee. While handling media and public relations, I developed greater respect –and sympathy – for PR pros. Seriously, how could media members not jump when I called and sent emails? My ideas were all so brilliant and just perfect for their audience!
While I’ve never worked on a political campaign, I imagine there are similarities to working for the Super Bowl Host Committee: a small group of people experiencing stress, adrenaline rushes and silly moments that few others can specifically relate to.
My Super Bowl experience made me realize that working for the media is sometimes easier than “with” the media J and I returned to the world of news. At 550 KFYI, I’m fortunate to be able to pursue business, consumer and lifestyle stories while also anchoring midday newscasts. Send story ideas to christinaestes@kfyi.com
I’m also regular writer for the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, and my work has appeared in Phoenix Business Journal, The Arizona Republic and Arizona Business Gazette.
Right now, I’m working on a much longer writing project – a mystery novel featuring a Phoenix TV reporter. www.christinaestes.com
