#MediaMonday – Charlie Huero

Even though the temperatures are above 100 degrees, today’s #MediaMonday is KOOL.  It comes to us from Charlie Huero, who’s on KOOL-FM weekdays from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.  He’s also the assistant program director for the station.

Charlie, time to share:

I am originally from Milwaukee, Wisc. I have been in radio since 1985 while I was in college at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse! (GO CHIEFS).  Either I really love what I do, or I have not learned my lesson! I have worked in Milwaukee, San Diego (twice), Los Angeles, San Antonio, and here in Phoenix since 1998.

I have been married to my wonderful wife Sandra for 26 years, and we have two girls. Mia is 22 and has graduated from ASU with a degree in biology, and Sofia is 18 and headed to NAU to major in psychology. They get their looks and their book smarts from their mother for sure! Family is very important to me. They have supported my career (and all the moving around) over the years, and I am blessed to have them!

I got into radio because I have always loved to entertain and create great experiences for people. I like to make people laugh and have a good time. Over my career, I have been involved in many events not only from the “disc jockey” point of view but also from the person who plans and executes the promotions. I am very passionate about music and sports. I have a huge collection of music at home from rock to classical and everything in between! I love to golf. I wish I had more time to go more often.

In addition to this radio career and all of the family time, I am also very involved in the community. I host our Public Service program called “BE KIND ALWAYS.” This is our PSA show on the air here at KOOL/KMLE/KALV and I have also evolved this into my weekly podcast. I work with many 501c3 organizations such as the Purple Society, which is an organization that raises awareness and funds for children and families dealing with pediatric cancer. I am also active with Special Olympics Arizona and the Foundation For Blind Children. Giving back is just as important and my whole family is involved, too!

Now that our children are growing up, my wife and I have been doing more together. Watching our kids grow up is a blessing, and what they will become will be an amazing adventure not only for them, but for us as well. This gives us some time together now as a “couple” and one thing we like to do is try new restaurants. My wife works for a local ad agency called “KNOODLE” and she does some blogging on the side to take care of her “creative energy.” Our nights out to different places provide not only content for social media but gives us some quality time together. I can honestly say that I am lucky to be where I am at in my career, and also in my personal life.

I love being at KOOL.  It’s the music I grew up on. This is the music you can sing all the words to. There is much passion here and amongst my co-workers. KOOL is fun. KOOL is memories. KOOL is a lifestyle. KOOL….is KOOL.
