#MediaMonday – Charles Sidi
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Charles Sidi, the host of Ride Around Arcadia.
What inspired the podcast?
I moved from England to Arizona with my wife Sarah and our kids nearly 20 years ago and we immediately fell in love with the Arcadia neighborhood. Since then, we have established deep roots in the area. While stuck at home sick one day earlier this year, I was scrolling Instagram and noticed a flood of podcasts. I thought “Isn’t there a more exciting way to conduct an interview than just sitting in chairs with microphones?” That question, along with my desire to highlight the people who make up the fabric of the Arcadia community, sparked the idea for my new show, Ride Around Arcadia. I called up the production team at Pixelist Media, and within weeks, I had a green screen and stationary bicycles set up in The Brokery’s Arcadia office and was soon booking guests.
Tell us about the podcast:
Ride Around Arcadia is a show that features fun 5-7 minute interviews with the people who make Arcadia great. After recording, the team edits the video to create a backdrop of a virtual bike ride through the beautiful Arcadia neighborhood. My goal is to highlight the people and businesses of Arcadia, so others can see what the neighborhood has to offer. Each interview focuses on the guest’s area of expertise, their thoughts on Arcadia, and a set of rapid-fire questions that vary by guest, with the exception of one standard question: “Postino or LGO?” We record every third Monday evening.
What kind of pitches, if any, do you prefer? What topics are of most interest to you?
I am looking for guests who own or run local businesses, nonprofits, or events — and either reside in, or whose organizations are in Arcadia — that would be of interest to people living in (or considering moving to) the Arcadia community. If you or a client are a good match, I like brief emails that share who they are and why they would be a good fit for the show.
Favorite TV shows or movies?
I just watched Black Rabbit with Jason Bateman and Jude Law (brilliant). My favorite films include Shawshank redemption (Morgan Freeman), The Firm (Tom Cruise) and Stir Crazy (Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder).
Favorite color?
Black (very British).
What is something readers would be surprised to know about you?
I own a patent for a product I invented called BizBox and have been involved in the real estate industry for over 35 years. Over the course of my career, I have built a number of award-winning buildings.
