#MediaMonday – Anna Chaulk
Every Monday, HMA introduces you to a member of the media – the new and the seasoned – that keep our local and national news gears turning.
Today we hear from Anna Chaulk, anchor and managing editor at KECY FOX 9 and ABC 5 in Yuma and associate faculty member at Arizona Western College. According to the Yuma Sun, Anna’s loyal viewers consider her the best local television personality in Yuma, but she’d be the first to say the credit belongs to others besides her.
Anna was born in Colorado but moved to Yuma with her family while she was still in elementary school. She graduated from Kofa High School and then attended Arizona Western College. She then went on to the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English. Anna spent 10 years in Las Vegas, gaining experience covering sports and news. She then decided to take a break and moved to Japan to teach English for two years.
Anna now resides in Yuma and in her free time enjoys being outside with people or inside with a good book.
So, Anna, take it away!
What do you want to tell the blogosphere about yourself today?
Let’s get this show on the road!
I’m one of the lucky few who get to explore two passions each and every day. College professor by day, broadcaster by night! I love both of my professions because every day is an opportunity to learn something new.
I teach developmental English and broadcasting at Arizona Western College. My goal in the classroom is to create a safe and fun learning environment and make every student feel valued.
My goal at the TV station is to work efficiently and report accurately. I work in a very non-traditional newsroom. My entire staff – including production – is seven people. Each person knows how to perform the functions of every position. On any given day, you may see me pulling cable for a live shot, anchoring the early news, or reporting the day’s top story from out in the field. Our audience is broad and far-reaching. We serve Yuma and Imperial counties as well as parts of Mexicali, Los Algodones, and San Luis in Mexico.
Some things about me that may surprise people:
- I skate with the Yuma Roller Derby League. I’ve convinced my mom it’s not as dangerous as riding my dirt bike.
- I have three brothers and one sister. We all live in different cities.
- I only know one joke, and I laugh at it every time I tell it:
Q: What did the strawberry say to the other strawberry?
A: How did we get in this jam!?
- I found a stray puppy in Japan. I named her Crackers and brought her on the airplane back to America. She is my favorite souvenir.
- I love to travel. I can’t wait to visit Russia, Costa Rica, and Australia.
- I kind of wish I slept more…
That’s me in a nutshell. Please feel free to contact me. I’m always looking for stories that affect our state or have a Yuma/Imperial Valley connection. Call me directly: 928-217-5532. I’m on twitter: @AnnaChaulk or Facebook.com/AnnaChaulk. You can also email me: Anna.Chaulk@kecytv.com.
See y’all on TV!
