#MediaMonday – Abby Petersen

Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Abby Petersen, the digital editor and production coordinator for Frontdoors Media.

How did you get your start in the media? What is your story?

I knew from a young age that I wanted to do something creative. I excelled at reading and writing in school and once it came time for college, I chose a path that would allow me to home in on my writing skills while also learning about the public relations and advertising side of the business. While in college, I interned as a sportswriter and social media manager for myriad local publications. It made absolute sense for me to continue my love for writing and media in my post-college career.

Tell us about your position(s) at Frontdoors and what you prefer to be pitched?

I get to do a lot of things in my role here. I manage our website, events calendar, photo galleries and weekly newsletters. Additionally, I write for Frontdoors Magazine’s Creating Culture section, where I get to speak with fellow artistic-minded people throughout the Valley. We love being able to spotlight as many different nonprofits around the Valley as possible, from grant announcements, stories of inspiration and hope, new leadership hires, upcoming fundraising events and more.

Where did you grow up?

Minneapolis, MN

Favorite color?

Green

Favorite TV shows or movies?

I love a good HBO show – Boardwalk Empire, Succession, White Lotus and True Detective are some of my favorites. I also recently got into watching foreign language shows on Netflix. If you’re comfortable watching with subtitles, I can’t recommend The Glory, Clark and Dear Child enough.

Favorite local restaurants or other haunts?

I LOVE Pita Jungle! I’d like to see it expand nationwide – I want my friends and family back in Minnesota to understand why I’m always talking about it.

Three things readers would be surprised to know about you?

  • I’m a massive advocate for adopting and not shopping for animals, and I volunteer at Almost There Rescue here in Phoenix.
  • I have a 17-year-old cat named Maya. She’s overweight and arthritic but I saw her take down an English Mastiff and Labradoodle at the same time once. She’s tough as nails.
  • I love 70s soul music – Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye and Etta James are always on my rotation.
