#MediaMonday – Chandler Peterson
While it’s #MediaMonday, this post makes us feel like it’s #WineWednesday or #FoodFriday (is that a thing? It should be!). That’s because it comes to us from Chandler Peterson, the founder and editor of Phoenix Food and Wine.
How did you get into reporting/editing in the first place? What’s your story?
Over years of chatting with various culinary creators: chefs, restauranteurs, designers and front and back of the house talent… I found myself hearing endless amounts of really captivating stories. I realized these stories were too great to be just left in the quiet corners of a restaurant booth.
Tell us about Phoenix Food and Wine. What’s is all about?
It started as an Instagram account to share my favorite dishes, drinks, spots and chefs.
It’s evolved beyond that into the site today, and there is also a podcast I am launching soon to share stories about food, libations and life.
Where did you grow up?
Atlanta. Yes… I’m a southern boy and I’m also known to frequently “go yonder” and “fetch” stuff.
Favorite type of music?
I’m a sucker for the standards: Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Etta James.
Favorite color?
Royal Blue.
Favorite place to visit?
Hong Kong! AMAZING food! And that city is an adventure and a spectacle at every turn!
What are some of your favorite local spots or things to do?
My favorite spots at the moment are:
– Clever Koi on Central… because I dream of their Pork Ramen.
– CRUjiente Tacos… I can’t get enough of their tempura avocado tacos.
– Houston’s… their spinach artichoke dip is a go-to classic.
If I’m not at one of those spots, you’ll find me on a patio with a view enjoying a sunset coffee or cocktail with friends or at the movies at Harkin’s Camelview.
Favorite food?
Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits and Sausage Gravy, the kind I grew up with back in the south.
Least favorite food?
Anything with olives or tentacles!
Three things readers would be surprised to know about you?
1. I’m a huge techie, worked for Apple and used to own a computer company.
2. Though I own Phoenix Food and Wine… my favorite drink isn’t wine! It’s Macallan Rare Cask Single Malt Scotch.
3. I’m very easily talked into a fun road trip!
What should people be pitching you?
Stories about culinary creators and tastemakers.
What is the lead time you need for content?
Three weeks, please!
