Local Media Making National Mark
Nominations for the 39th Annual News and Documentary Emmy® Awards were announced this week by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). The News & Documentary Emmy Awards will be presented on Monday, Oct. 1 at a ceremony at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in the Time Warner Complex at Columbus Circle in New York City. The event will be attended by more than 1,000 television and news media industry executives, news and documentary producers and journalists.
And guess what?
Both ABC 15 and Telemundo Arizona are up for national awards!
ABC 15’s Dave Biscobing, Gerard Watson and Shawn Martin are nominated in the category of Outstanding Regional News Story: Investigative Report for “Imposter Doctor;” and then the three join Chad Lindstrom in a second nomination in that category for “Cash for Compliance.”
Noticerio Telemundo Arizona’s Miguel Gayton, Dulce Rosadilla, Julio Cisneros, Antoni Mejia, Roberto Duarte and Kevin Duran are nominated in the category for Outstanding Regional News Story: Spot News for “Black Lives Matter Protest Crew Pepper Sprayed.”
In addition to celebrating this year’s nominees in forty-nine categories, the National Academy will also honor Paula S. Apsell, senior executive director of PBS’ NOVA, with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her many years of science broadcasting excellence.
