CSOM – What Does It Take for PR Firms to Earn a Seat at the Strategy Table?

For years, public relations professionals have been advocating for a seat at the proverbial table. We need to be included at the highest level of corporate or organizational strategy and planning. This is now not just a “nice to be there” option, it is essential to your organizational survival in these turbulent times. The new role of communications, or maybe it is the old role amplified, is more important than ever.

In today’s marketplace, trust is at an all-time low and we know we have to be smarter about how we are presenting ourselves and our organizations. We need clear, authentic and transparent communication, both internally and externally. When we say we want to be at the table, it is because we bring an objective opinion into the conversation.  We have reviewed and analyzed issues from all perspectives; we understand potential outcomes and have already begun strategizing how to handle them.

What’s the cost of having us in the seat?  What’s the cost if we’re not there?

Adrian and I veer off in a few different directions in this episode, but we eventually end up back at the same place we started – if you know what is important to your business and understand that good communications counsel and strategy is a solid investment, then please do us a favor and pull out the chair and let us have a seat.  We promise we’ll make it worthwhile.
