CSOM – Help Save Public Television
We’ve all likely heard rumblings that the current administration has proposed significant budget cuts to public broadcasting. These cuts are part of a larger proposal to cut government spending. Should these cuts be approved, it could mean the elimination of organizations like PBS and NPR.

Public broadcasting stations, like PBS and NPR, are vital sources of news, educational programming, and cultural content. They play a crucial role in reaching communities with limited access to resources, especially those in rural communities. These stations provide programming on a wide range of topics, offering a diverse and enriching viewing experience.
I invited Alice Ferris to join me on the podcast to talk more about this important topic. Alice is a lifelong supporter of PBS (as evidenced by the photo). She is founding partner of GoalBusters Consulting specializing in strategic planning, campaign development, and public media support. She got her start at PBS Wisconsin, blowing bubbles during Lawrence Welk Show pledge breaks, and now appears on-air for Arizona PBS and national PBS fundraising programs, including Masterpiece.
Yes, the proposed cuts could lead to the cancellation of important programs like Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers but maybe more important, according to Alice, is the impact these cuts will have on our local stations’ ability to provide news, cultural programming, and emergency alerts, potentially depriving viewers of vital connections to their communities and the world.
What is our role as consumers of public media, of those that value the content and the programming and the resources? How do we make a difference in this discussion? What is it that we can do to prevent or at least prolong what is happening?
