March 20 is First-Ever Arizona Gives Day
Presented by First Bank, Arizona Gives Day is a 24-hour online initiative encouraging Arizonans to recognize and financially support the efforts of various nonprofits from all over the state. Continuing until 11:59 p.m., Arizonans can go online at www.azgives.org and pledge their financial support to the nonprofit of their choice.
“After seeing the success of this type of online giving initiative in other states, we are excited to host Arizona Gives Day on March 20,” said Patrick McWhortor, president and CEO of the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits. “We hope to have as many as 20,000 Arizonans support our nonprofit community today, raising millions of dollars for these worthwhile organizations.”
Leading up to the initiative, the Alliance and AGF representatives hosted informational meetings across the state with nonprofit organizations, leading 850 to register to be a recipient of the Arizona Gives Day effort. Any 501(c) 3 tax-exempt organization in Arizona was eligible to participate in the program. In addition, FirstBank committed $150,000 in incentive funding, which will be shared with the nonprofits that meet certain milestones throughout the 24-hour period. Such things as most donors in an hour, most donors overall, etc. will net out the given nonprofit additional funding from the campaign.
Arizona Gives Day has received additional financial support from a variety of organizations throughout the state including:
Arizona Community Foundation
BHHS Legacy Foundation
Chauncey Family Foundation
Community Foundation for Southern Arizona
Cox Communications
Delta Dental of Arizona
FirstBank
Flinn Foundation
Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Foundation
Hickey Family Foundation
Intel
Lodestar Foundation
Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust
St. Luke’s Health Initiatives
SCF Arizona
The Thunderbirds
Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust
According to Marissa Theisen, president and CEO of the Arizona Grantmakers Forum, the impact of individual donors on the state’s many nonprofit organizations will be felt for years to come. “These much-needed funds will help organizations change lives, build leaders and champion so many good causes.”
