#BookClub – A Girlfriend’s Guide to Social Media
It is so much fun to see a friend’s name appear as the author of a book. Congratulations to LaTricia Harper Woods and her writing partner, Maria Benson, on the release of A Girlfriend’s Guide to Social Media.
The book is an excellent overview of the various social media channels and the dos and don’ts of engaging online. If you’re not active now, this book will give you lots of great reasons to get a move on and login. If you’ve been online a while, then consider this fun read a refresher of what you might already know.
The book is true to its name – every page reads like a conversation with a friend, complete with funny stories, a little sarcasm and a whole lotta sass.
A few takeaways:
- [inlinetweet prefix=”” tweeter=”” suffix=”@LTWoods #girlfriendguide”]Nothing exists in the social media world without engagement.[/inlinetweet] Be an active participant, interact and share valuable content.
- Why do you want to be on a social platform – whatever the reasons, make sure you are consistent with whom you are online. Personal or professional, doesn’t matter, your social platforms represent your “brand.”
- [inlinetweet prefix=”” tweeter=”” suffix=”@LTWoods #girlfriendguide”]Connecting is the key to social media success.[/inlinetweet] Don’t just lurk online, friend and follow people, and return the favor, that’s where you’ll find the true benefit.
- Not every social platform is right for you. This is my rallying cry. There are lots of options available, but that doesn’t mean you have to be on everyone. Find the ones that you enjoy, that you’re willing to invest time in and you’ll enjoy it so much more.
