You Have Permission to Fail
Several members of our team are fans of 4th Gear Consulting, which is in the business of helping leaders grow their skills and better engage team members. From time to time, their own fearless leader Randy Hall provides a little inspiration via the business’ digital channels. A favorite of mine talks about failing, which is one of my – and most of our – biggest fears whether at work or in our personal lives.
His contention: it’s okay.
To Hall, every day is about winning or learning, not failing. By reframing “failure” as “learning,” it changes the narrative in our minds and allows us grace to fail as long as we take something from the experience. We all have permission to fail, he says. Failing can mean progress, and big wins can only happen after enough progress is made.
As we start this New Year, many of us are setting goals for ourselves. One of mine will be to win something or learn something every day. What about you?
