Other Words for Public Relations

Defining public relations is tough, even by the professional communicators who work in the industry.

That’s why I fell in love with a recent blog post from the Public Relations Global Network (of which we are a founding member). In it, author Mariusz Pleban of Poland’s OneMulti shares 50 terms for public relations, ranging from “reputation management” and” public attitudes shaping” to “nursing human connections” and “story leadership.”

A good list, but I have some additions:

  • Planners
  • Strategizers
  • Writers
  • Helpers
  • Givers
  • Organizers
  • Leaders
  • Wordsmiths
  • Connectors
  • Teachers
  • Mentors
  • Counselors
  • Confidantes

If a PR person, how else do you define your function and all the various hats you wear?
