Why Fly A Flag?
When I visited Munds Park in Northern Arizona a few summers ago, I thought: “What a patriotic community.”
It seemed just about every cabin had a flag flying in front of it. Sure, it does send a patriotic message to all passers-by. It’s even more prevalent during the first week of July when we celebrate Independence Day. Residents are even reminded about proper American flag etiquette – as outlined in this article in the Pinewood News.
Having spent a little more time in Munds over the last couple years, I learned that flying a flag also communicates another message. It subtly tells first responders that the cabin is occupied – that someone is home.
While this is only important during emergency situations, the display of patriotism on a regular basis is refreshing.
