Who Is The Singing TV Guy?
I have no musical talent. Zero. I’m typically impressed by those who do.
Former Phoenix sportscaster and news anchor Mike Chamberlin is someone who has that talent. He can write songs, play his guitar and sing with the best of them. He retired from TV more 13 years ago, but he’s been performing professionally for almost 50 years and is known as “The Singing TV Guy.”
With his nearly 40-year TV career behind him, he now performs more than 200 concerts per year, mostly at 55-plus RV parks and churches throughout the West and Southwest.
Mike was in Phoenix last weekend for his annual “Mike Chamberlin and Friends” holiday concert presented by the House of Broadcasting Radio & Television Museum. His “friends” featured such notables as Al McCoy, Jan D’Atri, Pat McMahon, Alice Tatum, Rita Davenport, Buddy Owens, Laurie Fagen and David Miller – all legendary names in the Phoenix media world.
In addition to his singing, available on several CDs, Mike has written a fun little book, God has a Sense of Humor for Heaven’s Sake. It includes a compilation of quotes taken from actual church bulletins and message boards. He read a few of his favorites and they all make you chuckle – although it wasn’t their original intent. There is a charitable component to each purchase.
The printed word is an essential part of communications, even if sometimes it gets misconstrued a bit for the entertainment of others. It’s often easy to laugh about it after-the-fact, especially if you weren’t the one in charge of editing.
Class, conviction, humor and a genuine interest in uplifting others still has a place!
