Working from Home in California
While many summer plans have been postponed due to the virus, working from home makes it easier to travel and work at the same time. Team HMA has been working from home since early March but where exactly is “home?”
I’m writing this as I sit in an empty resort room overlooking the ocean in Carlsbad, Calif. I’m no nomad, but these unique circumstances allow me to work from anywhere while travelling. I may not be living in an RV or own a business like photographer Steve Wewerka, but it’s nice to have the opportunity to see new places for the time being while still being able to fulfil my job responsibilities.
When I’m not in the room working, I can stroll across town or visit the beach as the sun sets. On my walk yesterday I wanted to pick up a local paper to learn more about the town and I came across something even more interesting. Next to a newsstand for The Coast News, I found a newspaper-themed restaurant called The Daily News Café. I can’t say for certain how this place got its name but my guesses are that the building was either an old newsroom for a newspaper or it serves as a resource for locals and tourists alike to be in-the-know about the people, businesses and events that are important in town.
The Daily News Café was closed but I did grab a free copy of The Coast News which is a local paper comparable to The Scottsdale Progress. While I won’t be attending any of the listed events, I found an ad for gluten-free pizza that I’ll be picking up tonight. I’m going to try The Daily News Café this weekend and I’ll report back.
