#ThrowbackThursday: PRSA Western District Conference
We are two weeks from the 2019 PRSA Western District Conference, which takes place in Phoenix April 10-12 and is being co-chaired by none other than our own Abbie S. Fink. Leading up to the big event, I wanted to share some of my learnings from past events. If you missed last week’s post, check it out here.
This week, I am remembering the slow clap I had for the entire 2012 Conference, which was in Denver. Full recap here, but during the educational (and entertaining!) week, I learned:
- One of life’s great lessons comes from the Hokey Pokey – “Put Your Whole Self In…”
- The mind stretched by a new idea never returns to its original dimensions. Or…Fat Minds are Fabulous!
- Tom Garrity doesn’t think a community outreach program can be successful without sincerity at the on-set.
- In meetings, being a monopolizing narcissist is probably not the best way to accomplish anything.
- Sometimes you need to show, not tell.
- We have ALL been guilty of naughty behavior in meetings. Meetings that fail all suffer from poor leadership, poor organization or poor behavior.
- Image is our first choice; words are regrettably often the second choice.
- The more motivated I get; the more mobilized I become.
- Be PRE-ACTIVE, not just proactive.
- Don’t compromise to the point of degradation.
- A great counselor doesn’t solely focus on the client – he/she focuses on members of his/her own team, too.
It is also where I made one of my best PR friends of all time, current Phoenix PRSA president Rachel Brockway.
