How are you spending your time at home?
The HMA team has been practicing social distancing and following the Governor’s executive continues to work from home. We check in daily through video conference via GoToMeeting and have even had virtual team lunches and happy hours. As many of us are learning to be more innovative with technology, getting active outside and spending more quality time with family, we wanted to share with you how we have been keeping ourselves entertained.
Here’s how each of us have been spending some extra time at home:
Alison: Besides staying up until 1 and 2 a.m. struggling to finish puzzles, I’ve been budgeting and then ordering as much take-out as possible (shout-out to Larder + Delta, Postino, Clever Koi, NYPD, Nektar Juice, Snooze, North, Doughbird, LoveCraft) as well as enjoying wine club purchases from Rombauer, Capo Creek and Williamson Wines while also getting into some of my favorite local wines, especially Carlson Creek Rule of Three and LDV Grenache.
Annelise: I use Netflix Party which is a Google Chrome extension that lets me watch anything on Netflix in a chatroom with my friends! I’m also staying connected by playing board games and having virtual happy hours with friends and family over FaceTime.
Autumn: I have been bingewatching TV like everyone else. Including the infamous Tiger King and Love Island UK. I now joke after watching Love Island UK that I am going to start incorporating UK slang into my vocabulary. I also started reading “The Secret” again. I started the book months ago, and now I feel like I have the time to fully dedicate to it. And of course, I am continuing my work-out regimen five days a week from the comfort of my home.
Abbie: Out of necessity, I have been preparing three meals a day. Before this, that would have meant a protein bar for breakfast eaten in the car on the way to work, going out for lunch, and coming home and maybe tossing something in the microwave. Now, three meals a day are really being prepared. I’m making my own coffee, too. Will this effort continue when we return to whatever the new normal is, I’m not sure, but for now, I’m enjoying it. I have also joined in on several virtual events like Shabbat morning services (since I can’t go in-person) and a book club.
Scott: With my gym closed, I have joined Susan taking Lambeau to the park each morning before work. There are so many people and dogs out that we have never seen before and we’ve lived in the same house for 28 years! In addition to our daily HMA team chats, I have been participating in various PRGN and other group chats, happy hours and just regular catch-up chats throughout the day. Because we have so many PRGN affiliates in various time zones, some of those chats are late and night or in the wee hours of the morning.
Jennifer: My husband and I love to hike and run the trails. We typically pick the same old spots but have now made a game of finding new trails unknown to the locals…or at least less-traveled. We also love to cook and used to do it a lot, but Mike travels so much that we rarely get time to do it anymore. We have our meals in a different place every day…just to mix things up! We also bought a dog. Her name is Shelby and we’re so grateful to have this big bundle of love in our house.
Marissa: In true spring-cleaning spirit, I have found myself going through my bookshelves and rediscovering books that have been on my reading list for years. I can now cross off two on the list. I don’t like to be cooped up in the house for too long, so I try to get out of the house a few times every day, even if it is a short trip to my backyard for some fresh air. Usually I will go on a hike, tan in the sun or simply spend time in nature appreciating the beauty of Arizona.
