Social media done right

When it comes to social media, creativity and originality are key to engaging with your audience. Over the last few weeks, I’ve noticed a few social media accounts that are really doing it right. Here are the top three accounts that are rocking social media right now:

  1. CIA

The CIA recently joined Instagram, with a post that playfully invited followers to play a game of “I spy.” This was the CIA’s first post, and it has generated twice as much engagement as any other post so far, with 49,600 likes and 6,900 comments. Their next highest post, dedicated to displaying the comic artwork of their CIA officers, has 26,000 likes and 1,800 comments. While the agency needs to be covert about a lot of things, they are using their creativity to find ways to personalize their content and connect with their audience on a human level.

  1. Denny’s

Denny’s social media is home to some of the most creative content online. Don’t believe me? Check out one of their most recent creations: the Crepetucky Derby hat, helping announce crepes to their menu. Their content is wonderfully weird, very distinctly branding their page with memorable posts that engage their audience with both relevant information and thought-provoking attention grabbers. One example of a tweet that leaves followers guessing reads “celery is hard vegetable water,” which – believe it or not – got 1,100 retweets and 6,000 likes.

  1. Good Morning America

With so many heartwarming stories to share, Good Morning America makes a special effort to differentiate their social channels and share different stories on each platform. While major stories can be found across each channel, the posts in between are completely different, and unique to each social medium. Their Instagram shares completely original content, including much more “snackable content,” or small bites of information, from cooking videos to interviews with young entrepreneurs, which are designed to hold the ever-shrinking attention span of the digital generation.
