Separation of Church and State
We all know how essential it is to step away from work every now and then – even if it is unplanned, as Kelsey Makings pointed out recently.
And Alison Bailin Batz has written about what some of the HMAers do in their spare time.
Those who are able to manage a good work/life balance are typically pretty well-adjusted. They are able to keep their jobs and hobbies separate from one another. Here are some examples of people I know who don’t quite always have that separation:
- The auto mechanic who is crew chief for a weekend racing team.
- The first-grade teacher who is also a Sunday school teacher.
- The chef who’s in charge of a neighborhood barbeque.
- The property manager who heads up his homeowners association.
- The landscaper who has his own rose garden.
So, when a hobby becomes an extension of your job, do they both lose some luster?
