How I define Public Relations:

I define public relations as being able to help clients engage with their audiences to build genuine, long-term relationships.

Hat you most identify with:

The hat that I most identify with is a floppy hat. This hat has a relaxed go with the flow vibe, with a hint of stylish. This describes my personality of a relaxed person with an outfit for every occasion.

My Story:

I was born and raised in Decatur, Ill. A small town that most have never heard of and they assume it must be near Chicago since that is all that exists in Illinois, right?

Growing up I always wanted more. My dreams and ideas were always bigger than my small hometown. The first opportunity to escape my hometown came when it was time to decide where I would attend college.

While my classmates looked at Illinois State University, University of Illinois or Millikin University, I thought bigger. I applied to schools like Michigan State University, The Ohio State University, Arizona State University and about 20 others.

When it came time to decide I knew one thing for sure. I knew that I would not be spending the next four years walking across a college campus bundled up to my neck, while trudging through the snow. That requirement left me with one option, Arizona State.

I had never actually been to the state of Arizona, in fact, I didn’t come to the state until it was time to start school. After a brief crying session on the phone with my mom, one hour after she left me on campus, I embraced ASU for everything it was and never looked back.

I began my journey at ASU as a business communication major. After taking calculus and economics I quickly realized this wasn’t the major for me. I realized in that first semester the only classes I enjoyed were my communication classes. With this in mind, I met with my advisor and explained all the things I had enjoyed about the semester and what I wanted more of. This is when I learned about Cronkite.

I took the campus shuttle from Tempe to the downtown Phoenix to see if Cronkite was going to be my perfect match. I knew from the moment I walked into the building that it was; it just felt right. After meeting with what would be my new advisor, I quickly changed my major and began in Cronkite my sophomore year.

Fast forward to 2019, I have now graduated cum laude from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications with my bachelor’s degree and also a certificate in marketing and sales from the W.P. Carey School of Business.

Now moving on, my next chapter is right here at HMA Public Relations. It just feels right as I begin this journey as an account coordinator, and I am prepared to tackle this journey with a great company full of talented individuals.
