#MediaMonday – Teagan Rasche

Teagan, time to share!

Tell us how you got your start? Tell us your story!
It’s kind of a long story! I grew up in Vancouver, Canada, and was a high level athlete my entire life. When I was in my freshman year of high school, I knew I wanted to go to a big American university on a track and field scholarship. During the recruitment process, coaches asked what I was interested in studying and I told them “journalism, I want to be a sportscaster.” It all worked out and I started off college at Virginia Tech. After a year in Blacksburg, Va., I was missing the West Coast and was dying to live in the sunshine. I transferred to the University of Arizona where I spent three years competing on the track and field team and studying journalism. (BEAR DOWN!) Fast-forward to now, I’m still chasing my 15-year-old self’s dream and am a broadcast journalist in Yuma. I mostly cover news but get to do some sports on the weekends.

Tell us how you came to start working in the media scene?
During my junior year of college, my track and field coach got kind of mad at me one day and said if you want to be a sportscaster, go get some experience. Being strong-willed by nature, I needed that little push to fiercely dive head first into the journalism world. I started working for the Daily Wildcat, U of A’s student newspaper, and got to write for them but my favorite part was doing Facebook Lives on the sidelines at football games. I never for a second doubted that was what I wanted to do. After college, I was briefly a communications intern for the Fiesta Bowl and loved my time working and living in Scottsdale. This job opened up and within a few weeks, I was already reporting in Yuma.
