#MediaMonday – Nancy A. Shenker
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from award-winning journalist Nancy A Shenker.
How did you get your start in the media? What is your story?
I am a late-life writer. Storytelling has always been my passion. I was a corporate executive (Citibank, Mastercard, Reed Exhibitions – producers of ComicCon) and then started my own brand marketing business in 2023. But about 10 years ago, I discovered that I could combine my business, marketing, and writing talents to produce a wide range of content for brands and publications. Having sat “on both sides of the desk,” I have a unique perspective on journalism.
Tell us about the outlets for which you write and the topic you prefer to be pitched?
I have a regular column for Street Fight, where I write about multi-location (MULO) brands. I also have a travel website and my own podcast (which I’m rebranding in October, but will still cover sex, tech, and life). I also have a blog and newsletter and love hearing about new quirky products and services (both consumer and business, especially technology, food, and fashion).
Where did you grow up?
New York City (Queens)
Favorite color?
Black (after all, I’m from New York), followed by purple, silver, lime green, and hot pink
Favorite TV shows or movies?
I confess – I’m a reality TV and true crime fan. But I do love Hacks, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and Succession.
Favorite local haunts or eateries?
I’m always up for a great dive bar (Leghorns), themed restaurant (Hula’s) or fine dining (Houston’s and Hillstone). I often go to L’Ame with girlfriends for their birthdays. Sam Fox is my idol.
Three things readers would be surprised to know about you?
I knit and bake. Despite my tough exterior, I’m somewhat of an ambivert/mushball, and I’m not always as fearless as I claim to be. My right arm is longer than my left arm.
