#MediaMonday – Kelton Wells
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Kelton Wells, executive producer for PBS Utah and a new board member for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of NATAS.
Kelton, time to share:
I joined PBS Utah about two years ago. During that time, I have served as producer of public affairs, overseeing our public affairs programming including Utah Insight, The Hinckley Report, Roots, Race & Culture and the Governor’s Monthly News Conference.
Before that, I was executive producer at KSTU FOX 13 in Salt Lake City where I worked for 7-1/2 years. In addition to overseeing several of the station’s newscasts, including the flagship News at Nine, I received regional Emmy nominations for the special reports “Targeting Faith” and “COVID-19: The Turning Point.” I also spearheaded KSTU’s coverage of the 2018 midterm and 2020 general elections.
I’m a naturally curious person who loves learning more about people and the world around me. That desire to ask questions led me to a career in news and broadcasting. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism where I also received two awards from the Society of Professional Journalists for my reporting on Aggie TV News.
I am a life-long Utahn who grew up in Price. My experiences in coal country and the high desert of eastern Utah have influenced my belief that everyone has a story worth sharing. I believe great power comes through listening to others and learning from those with vastly different backgrounds than your own.
When I’m not researching, conducting interviews, or editing video, I enjoy good theater, exploring new restaurants, cooking, baking, traveling, and spending time with those I care about. I’m also a musician and sing with the Utah Chamber Artists and the Utah Symphony Chorus in my spare time.
