#MediaMonday – Kelly Gannon
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Kelly Gannon, a producer for Arizona’s Family.
How did you get your start in the media? What is your story?
I was hooked the minute I got my first internship when I was 17 at a local radio station in Upstate New York. From there I went on to major in Broadcast Journalism and Communications at Northeastern University. I also earned my MBA from Fordham University with a concentration in Media and Management. Prior to joining Arizona’s Family, I worked as a segment producer for The Early Show at CBS News and as a research manager for CBS. I also served as the director of national research and analytics National CineMedia.
Tell us about your outlet and types of story pitches you want?
We are always looking for exciting and interesting stories for things to do around the Valley and in Arizona. Between CBS 5 and 3TV broadcast over 100 hours of live news each week, and love to hear about topical and compelling content.
Where did you grow up?
I’m originally from Clinton, N.Y. – a small town about 30 miles outside of Syracuse. But I moved to New York City after college and spent almost 20 years there before moving to Phoenix a few years ago.
Favorite color?
Blue, preferably navy…but pretty much any shade.
Favorite TV shows or movies?
I’m a big fan of the book-to-screen adaptations that have been happening lately like Daisy Jones and the Six and The Last Thing He Told Me. I’m also a big fan of Emily in Paris, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and sitcoms like Friends.
Favorite local restaurants or other haunts?
So many! I love Buck and Rider, Francine, Pubblico, Restaurant Progress, Tarbell’s, Pizzeria Bianco, The Henry, Ocean 44 …the list goes on and on.
Three things readers would be surprised to know about you?
- I love to read…I read at least a book a week.
- I’m married with two sons, and two dogs (both male as well) so I’m the lone girl in the house.
- My favorite thing to do is travel, I love meeting locals and learning about new places.
