#MediaMonday – Josh Kristianto

Happy 2025 and Happy #MediaMonday! This feature comes to us from Josh Kristianto, a reporter and MMJ for ABC15 Arizona.

Tell us more, Josh!

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in the Central Coast of California between the tech hub of Silicon Valley and the iconic coasts of Big Sur.

How did you get your start in working in the media? Tell us your story and experience.

I always watched the news growing up, whether it was local or national. I loved learning about history and current events. It was after I became the editor-in-chief of my high school newspaper that I saw journalism as a potential career option. After graduating college with a broadcast journalism degree, I got my first job at NBC Montana in 2015. The rest is history, I suppose.

Tell us about your outlet. What types of pitches are you looking for?

ABC15 in Phoenix is the biggest TV market I’ve been in. I’m always looking for growth pitches, whether it’s new housing and retail developments in the Valley to land use issues and conflicts.

What are your favorite stories to work on?

I love covering stories that help people directly, especially families in need or who’ve lost something in their lives. I also like to cover religion since it’s a big part of communities, and yet the press sometimes glosses over stories in that category.

What are some of your hobbies?

Traveling, eating and reading good books. Don’t get me started on World War 2 documentaries.

Favorite movie or TV show or book?

Mere Christianity by CS Lewis.

Do you have any favorite local spots?

Brunch Snob
