#MediaMonday – Jonathan McCall
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from the Valley’s NBC affiliate, 12 News. Jonathan McCall is a weekend anchor and reporter for 12 News, contributing across various shows and platforms.
Jonathan, time to share:
I joined Team 12 in May. I previously anchored and reported for KRON4 in San Francisco. Before that I worked in Tulsa, Baltimore, Kansas City and Las Vegas.
Always up for an adventure, I have taken a ride with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, jumped from the side of the Stratosphere Hotel and lost a shoe on live television during a snowstorm. I’ve anchored hours of live coverage of several breaking news events, including the San Jose VTA Railyard Mass Shooting and the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol Building. I also provided live talkbacks for CNN during the police shooting death of Terence Crutcher. Before stepping in front of a camera, I was a certified meteorologist for the U.S. Navy during Operation Enduring Freedom. My job was helping pilots plan missions in order to hit enemy targets during the war.
I’ve been fortunate to have my work honored by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for Best News Anchor, Best Breaking News Report, and Best Newscast.
I grew up in Houston and earned my B.A. in Communications from Lamar University. I’m a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
Outside of work, I am a foodie. I love traveling, staying on top of the latest gadgets and hanging out with my son, Nathaniel.
