#MediaMonday – Jessica Parsons
Once upon a time—okay, in the mid-90s—there was a KTVK-3TV producer named Jessica Parsons. Enter music: A Space Odyssey, married to her own prince charming and fellow co-worker, Jeffrey… and life was good.
Two moves, one child and three dogs later…she still has that great sense of humor, big smile and fabulous fashion sense most of us knew when working with her at 3TV, or during the many years she manned Phoenix Woman magazine—still one of my favorite local pubs, EVER.
These days, if this busy mom isn’t sitting on the side-lines of her son’s football or traveling club baseball games, she’s freelancing all over the Valley in public relations, ghost-writing, social media and more. Jess even has her own locally flavored blog.
But today, we are THRILLED to announce she has jumped back into the media spotlight full-time, and has been recently named the new editor of North Scottsdale Lifestyle Magazine!! Her first full issue will debut December 1, 2012, and she is working on a golf-themed January issue as we speak.
So today, on this #MediaMonday, we asked Jessica to reconnect with her PR, communications and media buds, and perhaps share a little more about herself and the magazine.
So, take it away, Jessica!
What would you like to share with the blogosphere today?
I am flattered and humbled by such a wonderful intro, thank you Alison. First, I’d like to begin by asking—is it wrong to wear a pink watch, pink shoe laces and a pink hair clip at the age of 40? Ordinarily I would say yes! But when I walk out of my house, dressed head-to-toe in pink bling, I somehow feel those rules couldn’t possibly apply to me.
My philosophy has always been, “if a little is good, then ‘more’ must be better.” Anybody who knows me can tell you, I’ve applied that way of thinking to eating, exercise, work and accessorizing—although with a Charming Charlie one block from my house, is it really my fault I could open my own boutique? If it sparkles, glitters, shimmers, shines or glows, I’m sold! Same holds true for any and all story ideas. Just send them. If there is a “sparkling” angle to be found, I will find it.
In fact, I’m so obsessed with, “Bright stories, Dazzling citizens,” I made it the tag line for my blog. It’s called SparkleNation.com. It’s okay, you can laugh. It makes me smile all the time—I’m a 12-year-old at heart—life’s short, might as well enjoy it.
When Phoenix Woman magazine closed in 2010 I found myself seeking a low-profile, I must have gone into “stealth-mode.” It was a huge blow. It was my favorite magazine EVER, too. In time, I moved forward, as we do, trying to find deep meaning to it all…lesson learned: stuff happens that you can’t control.
Although I’ve stayed busy with freelance writing and PR projects, it is time I emerge full-throttle. I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity to be the new editor of North Scottsdale Lifestyle magazine. I’m endeared to this publication for its community feel, and I hope you are too, as the pages each month are filled with local news and interesting people. I hope you “run into someone you know” in each issue as we spotlight Valley families, businesses, restaurants and charitable organizations—the heart and pulse of our community.
I’m also extremely excited to work with all of you, reconnect or meet you for the first time. Please send me your story ideas and event photos: JParsons@LifestylePubs.com.
I look forward to seeing you around town! By the way, the new Goodwill on Scottsdale Road and Acoma is fresh out of pink, fuzzy, star-shaped pillows. How do I know? I bought the last one yesterday. Ha!
