#MediaMonday – Jayme West
Each Monday, we are posting a blog to help our readers get to know the media just a little bit better.
With a TWIST!
No, we aren’t posting story pitch tips or media lists, but instead great stories from the media themselves about their lives, their work and other little known facts! Think of it as your first “networking” opportunity of the week!
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Jayme West, afternoon news anchor at KTAR FM.
So, Jayme, time to share!
Since Mac & Gaydos teamed-up a couple of years ago, the number one question I get when I meet people is, “How do you put up with those guys?”
Amazing what patience and prayer will do for the soul. Actually, they’re a lot of fun to be around.
Enough about them, though.
I’ve been at KTAR for about 14 years. I started in radio while I was still in high school, working at a little station in Show Low called KVSL. I tell you, nothing beats on-the-job training for learning a trade. I’ve worked in the San Diego and Seattle markets, but have been back in the valley since 1990.
I’m an AZ native and actually married another AZ native. What are the odds of that?
We don’t have any children, (unless you count our spoiled cat, Molly), but love to hang-out with our little nieces and our 3-year-old Godson. When I’m not at work, you’ll find me singing with the worship team at church, doing logic puzzles, baking or planning a trip. I love to travel and see new places, but my favorite spot is on a beach with a good book listening to the waves crash.
Something most people don’t know about me is that I sang with The Carpenters when they performed in Tucson in 1972. I was one of the little kids doing back-up on the song “Sing!”
