#MediaMonday – Jake Stein
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Jake Stein, a news producer for Good Morning Arizona at Arizona’s Family (3TV and CBS5).
How did you get started in broadcast news?
I graduated from the Walter Cronkite School in 2014 and went on to work at NBC Bay Area. I also freelanced with KTF Films on independent documentaries, including Batkid Begins (Warner Bros. Pictures) and Pick of the Litter (Disney+).
Share with our readers a bit about your role?
I produce the 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. shows for Good Morning Arizona on Saturdays and Sundays. During the week, I am either writing for our morning shows or filling in for fellow producers.
What types of pitches would you like, if any?
I love stories that break the stigma and clarify the mystery around mental health. There is so much stress out there these days, and I believe in the power of storytelling to remind us that we are all in this together and that no one is truly alone. Sometimes, simply being seen and heard can be healing and transformative. I’m also an avid hiker and I spend as much time outdoors as I can, so I’m always excited about stories that inspire people to appreciate the great outdoors and all the beauty Arizona has to offer.
Favorite type of music?
I enjoy a variety of genres and lately find myself listening to a lot of roots, folk and psychedelic rock. Recently, I’ve been listening to Trevor Hall, El Búho and Khruangbin.
Favorite color?
Green
Favorite TV shows or movies?
I just watched CODA and enjoyed it very much. I also love the documentary My Octopus Teacher. Avatar may be an all-time favorite and I can’t wait for the sequel.
Favorite local restaurants or other haunts?
Giving Tree Café in Phoenix and Oka Sushi in Fountain Hills
