Fellow PR pro Gretchen Pahia has an exceptionally cool one as the new editor of North Phoenix Family. Get to know her a little better today.
Gretchen, take it away!
How did you get into writing?
I have always been a creative minded person. Originally I was an elementary education major in college, but shortly after starting school, I changed my major to Broadcast Journalism- and writing was the best part of that all…that feeling never went away.
Tell us about North Phoenix Family?
North Phoenix Family is an online community resource for families in the North Valley area of Phoenix and surrounding communities with articles on parenting, managing time and stress, selecting schools, staying healthy, having fun, and everything else in between.
Where did you grow up?
North Phoenix! I honestly grew up in the Paradise Valley area, went to school in the Paradise Valley School District- so I am definitely a local girl.
Favorite type of music?
I do enjoy all types of music, depending on my mood. Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of alternative and rock music.
Favorite movie?
I have a few including Dead Poet’s Society, Toy Soldiers, Goonies. My all-time laugh out loud movie is Stripes.
Favorite TV show?
Just finished up Scandal- Amazing! I also love How to Get Away With Murder, NCIS, and will always love Gilmore Girls!
Favorite color?
Not sure I have a favorite but I do like purple and blue
Favorite local haunts?
My husband and I do a lot of Craft Beer, so we are big fans of places like Peoria Artisian Brewery, Dubina, Ground Control and more!
Favorite place to visit?
We love to go to theme parks as a family, so Disneyland is very near and dear to my heart. Love anywhere where we can have fun, laugh and enjoy time together as a family!
Favorite food?
This is a tough one, but I would probably say Street Tacos. I could eat tacos pretty much everyday… love tacos!
Least favorite food?
I am Not a fan of Olives, like at all..
Three things readers would be surprised to know about you?
–I grew up in Arizona and attending grade school/high school in Paradise Valley School District.
–I am very very allergic to cats and have never owned one and can’t even really be in a home/place where there are cats for very long.
-I am hopefully just a few weeks away from earning my First Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo
What should people be pitching you?
I am always looking for local news articles or features on businesses and people within the areas that we serve in North Phoenix. We are always looking for new businesses to feature, people who are doing cool things in the community and all-around fun information for families!
What is the lead time you need for online, print?
We work one month ahead, so like now, we are finishing up the June issue and editorially planning and laying out the July issue.
