#MediaMonday – Christina Estes
Regular readers of this column may think they’ve read about Christina Estes before. And you’d be right. We featured her here back in 2011 when she was just starting at KFYI.
But as does happen in the media marketplace, talented people get new opportunities, so we’re giving Christina a chance to update us on her new gig as business reporter at KJZZ 91.5 FM .
So, Christina, time to share!
Move over Yetta Gibson. J I’ve passed you in the “Number of Phoenix Stations Where I’ve Worked” category.
At last count, Yetta has worked at five TV and radio stations while I’ve been at seven. To be fair, I freelanced and worked part-time at more than one station simultaneously and Meredith’s move to put reporters on both 3TV and CBS 5 boosted my numbers.
Yetta’s current employer, CBS 5, was among my last regular TV stints – the other being Arizona PBS where I was fortunate to cover stories I couldn’t do anywhere else. I also got in some pretty good brain workouts when I filled in for Horizon Host Ted Simons.
I’m now exercising my brain at KJZZ, the National Public Radio (NPR) station in Phoenix, where the newsroom conversations include more three and four syllable words than my commercial side is used to. Fortunately, no one judges my one and two syllable packed vocabulary. J
As the station’s business correspondent I’m focused on stories that impact our economy, your wallet and public policy. That can mean a lot of things – from the way transportation projects impact your commute to why the business community is focused on improving Arizona’s reputation, especially when it comes to education.
