#MediaMonday – The Capital Gazette

Today’s #MediaMonday is in honor of the five journalists from the Capital Gazette that were shot and killed in Annapolis, Md., on Thursday.
The five victims were all employees of the Capital Gazette:

• Gerald Fischman, 61, editorial page editor
• Rob Hiaasen, 59, assistant editor
• John McNamara, 56, staff writer
• Rebecca Smith, 34, sales assistant
• Wendi Winters, 65, special publications editor

The shooter stormed through the Capital Gazette in a planned attack against the paper.  He had filed a defamation lawsuit in 2012 against the paper and a staff writer, according to court records, but the case was dismissed because he failed “to come close to alleging a case of defamation.” An appeals court upheld the decision.
