#MediaMonday – Cameron Chester

Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Cameron Chester, a sports and school reporter for the Fountain Hills Times Independent.

Time to share, Cameron…

Where did you grow up?

I was a military kid growing up. Originally, I’m from St. Louis, Missouri. I also lived in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Georgia, and Germany.

How did you get your start in writing? Tell us your story and experience so far.

In my previous position at Ramstein Air Base Armed Force Network, I learned customer service skills that will assist me with helping a valued customer or coworker. I also learned how to write scripts and how to do voice overs for commercial breaks. I interned at NYA Sports, where I wrote many game leading and interview articles. I recently had an internship at 98.7 Arizona Sports, I worked on the production board and how to control the sound effects for the radio show. During my internship at Times Media Group, I was responsible for writing news articles, features, and proofreading, editing, and filing them.

Tell us about your outlet and beat. What is your role? What types of pitches are you looking for?

Fountain Hills Times Independent is a source for daily news, sports, opinion, and entertainment in Fountain Hills, Arizona. I write about sports and educational topics for the company. 

What are your favorite stories to work on?

I enjoy writing about high school sports. Particularly football, soccer and track. I also enjoy writing about various political, entertainment or educational events going on around the Fountain Hills and Scottsdale communities. 

What are some of your hobbies?

My favorite hobbies involve reading fictional books, traveling to different countries and supporting my favorite professional sports teams 

Favorite movie and/or TV show and/or book and/or podcast?

My favorite movie is Stars Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. My favorite tv show is That 70’s Show. My favorite podcast is the Joe Budden Podcast or Pick a Side podcast. My favorite book is “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. 

Do you have any favorite local spots?

I really enjoy going to Devil’s Hideaway on Mill Avenue. I also like Brave Korean Barbeque.
